Instructions for Workshop Attendees: Afterworld: Portrait & Collage Workshop
Thank you for joining us at Essentials Creative for an artistic exploration of the afterworld through the lens of your unique cultural heritage. Please follow these instructions to maximize your experience and creativity in our workshop.
Before You Arrive:
Reflect on your personal or familial connections to the afterlife, multiculturalism, and diversity.
Consider how the concept of the afterworld presents itself in your heritage.
Collect any culturally significant items you'd like to include in your collage (photos, fabrics, or small trinkets).
Upon Arrival:
Check in at Essentials Creative Studio located inside Big Medium: 4201 S Congress #323 Austin, TX 78745
Familiarize yourself with the studio layout—there will be specific areas for portrait photography, collage creation, and relaxation.
Portrait Session (Step 1 & 2):
You will be guided to the photography area where you can get your portrait taken.
Relax and let your personality shine through during the session as our photographer captures your essence.
After the session, our team will assist you in selecting your image for printing.
Inspiration & Research (Step 3):
Visit the research station stocked with books, images, and articles on afterlife customs.
Jot down ideas, symbols, and color schemes that resonate with you for your collage.
Gathering Collage Materials (Step 4):
Explore the materials station, where you'll find collage elements, photos, and prints.
Select items that align with your vision and the themes you're exploring.
Collage Composition (Step 5):
At your workstation, begin arranging your portraits and materials.
Play with layouts and compositions. Remember, nothing is final—rearrange as much as you need.
Finalize & Share (Step 6 & 7):
Once you're satisfied with your composition, glue or tape your elements into place to complete your artwork.
Bring your finished piece to our photography station to be properly documented.
Share your artwork online with the hashtag #AfterworldWorkshop and tag @essentialscreative.
Parting Words:
Engage with other participants about their art and the stories behind their creations.
Remember:
Creativity is a process; it's okay if things don't come together immediately.
Our facilitators are here to guide and assist you. Don't hesitate to ask for help or advice.
Respect the cultural significance of the materials and the narratives being shared by others.
We're thrilled to embark on this artistic journey with you. Let's dive into the afterworld and emerge with beautiful, meaningful art that celebrates our diverse backgrounds.
