Native Waters

A floating projection of monarchs and Indigenous motifs over Lady Bird Lake, Austin.

Light on Water

Native Waters is a video installation made for Design Austin’s Waterworks, staged on the water of Lady Bird Lake in downtown Austin. A floating screen carries a film of Central Texas biodiversity — framed by a border of native and nature-inspired symbols — its colors doubling in the lake’s reflection as paddlers drift past beneath the skyline.

The film follows the region’s interconnected waterways — Lady Bird Lake, the San Marcos River, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center — and the species they hold, from monarch butterflies to the endangered Texas Wild Rice, which survives only in the San Marcos River.

  • Made for Design Austin’s Waterworks — a floating screen anchored on Lady Bird Lake
  • Features endangered Texas Wild Rice, monarch butterflies, and Central Texas flora
  • Filmed across Lady Bird Lake, the San Marcos River, and the Wildflower Center
  • A border of native and nature-inspired symbols frames every frame
